A Stop in Lautoka, Fiji
Our 3rd Fiji
stop was actually on the same island as our first stop (the longboat ride), but
this time, we were on the dry side of the island. And, we stuck to the city for this stop!
The day started out with
a view from the balcony. This is not the
island Lautoka is one, but is just another small Fijian island we passed on our
way into port. It is kind of nice, tho,
to be seeing so many islands – makes it feel like we’re making our way thru a
maze!
The big trip for today
was to an open air market in town. Yes,
there was an actual shopping mall (believe it or not!) where our shuttle bus
let us off, but we walked a couple of blocks off the main shopping street area
and found an open market
You could find just
about anything you might want at the market – from handicrafts, to fruits and
veggies, to lovely flowers! We didn’t
get anything, but I did enjoy all the colors and different wares!
Of course, we also
enjoyed the view from the ship when we got back on board! The sun came out and made the water that
wonderful blue that happens in the tropical weather. It reminded me of the Florida Keys!
One of the things that
we saw a lot of in Fiji were shipwrecks – usually, right off the harbor or port
where we stopped!! They often seemed to
be right in the way of other ships and boats that needed to get into port, but
everyone managed to make their way around them!
This one gave us one of the more picturesque shots.
All too soon, our day
was over and the evening sky came out. The tug boat going out to help guide a cargo
ship into the slot we just vacated added a nice touch to this image, I
thought. Can you see the areas in the
distance where some rain showers were happening? We didn’t hit any, tho!
Enjoy!
