Sights around Angel Fire & Eagle Nest
We decided to explore around home, in New Mexico, on our latest journey.  We used Angel Fire, NM, as our “home base” and just kind of explored out from there.  On our first day, we checked out some of the lovely scenery in the area right around Angel Fire and up thru the Eagle Nest area.  Both of these are in what’s called the Enchanted Circle in New Mexico.
Mt. Baldy
One of the first sights we saw was this sort of interesting mountain.  For obvious reasons, it’s called Mt. Baldy.  I’m not certain why it’s not green.  It looks like there are mountains that reach a higher elevation that have trees on them, so I don’t think it’s because the peak is above the tree line…….
Flowers on the Mountain
As we drove along a winding 2-lane road, there suddenly appeared a patch of wildflowers – yellow coneflowers and pink-purple thistle.  I really like this shot of the flowers adding a touch of color to the green of the mountain trees.
Mountain Stream
This is the first mountain stream that we came across.  They were getting a good monsoon rain pattern while we were here (rain just about every afternoon for a bit), so the streams were actually flowing.  This was such a peaceful scene, with the stream running right alongside a very steep rock face of the mountainside.
The Palisades outside Angel Fire
Just outside Angel Fire was an area called The Palisades.  I’m thinking it derived its name from the sheer rock face alongside the road.  As ragged as the mountain looks, the trees, flowing stream and flowers offer a good complement to that.
Country Road
I always love these little dirt country roads.  Odds are, this particular road leads to someone’s small homestead in the back country.  But, it’s always sort of a mystery.  I also love the way the clouds create shadows on the hills in the distance.
Wheeler Mountain
I’m ending this post with another mountain peak view – this one of Wheeler Mountain, the highest point in New Mexico – just over 13,000 feet!
Enjoy!
